Answers to our Frequently Asked Questions
Does my public adjuster need to be with me when my insurance company inspects the damage?
Yes. It’s important that you have a public adjuster by your side when the insurance company’s adjuster is inspecting the damage. Your public adjuster will know whether the insurance adjuster is following the correct procedures.
Can I re-open a case after filing a claim 3 years ago, because I believe the insurance company owes me money?
Yes. Under Florida law, you have the right to re-visit a case and file a supplemental claim up to five years after you receive payment for the damages.
Will my insurance company cover me if I’m at fault?
Yes. A loss is a loss, no matter whether it’s an accident or caused by Mother Nature.
What happens if my public adjuster and the insurance company disagree with the amount of the claim?
According to the National Association of Public Insurance Adjusters (NAPIA), in most cases, the insurance company and the public adjuster don’t agree with the amount of the claim. However, this is part of the process. An experienced public adjuster will negotiate with the insurance company representative and eventually come to terms.
Will my insurance company reimburse me for my hotel stay while my home is being repaired?
Most policies provide “Additional Living Expenses Coverage,” which pays for the costs you incur in excess of your normal living expenses. If you feel that your home is unsafe, you must inform your insurance company. The cost of staying in a hotel will only be covered if the insurance company representative determines upon inspection that your home is uninhabitable.
Should I feel guilty about filing a claim?
No, not at all. You pay the insurance company to cover the loss of your property. That’s why you have insurance coverage. Your insurance company certainly doesn’t feel guilty when they receive your payments.
My insurance company sent me a check, but it doesn’t cover all of the damages. Is there anything you can do?
Property Damage Consultants will inspect your damage and if necessary, can file a supplemental claim to recover the full amount that you’re entitled to, which is the maximum amount allowed in your policy.
Can my insurance company drop me or raise my rates if I hire a public adjuster?
Absolutely not. You have every right under the law to hire a public adjuster and NOT be penalized for it.
Can my insurance company require me to obtain estimates from three contractors?
No. Your Public Adjuster will thoroughly inspect your property and carefully detail all of the damage, then submit the report on your behalf. It’s the only estimate you will ever need for the claim.
